July 31, 2007Viking RB InjuedViking RB Chester Taylor was carted off the field today after suffering an arm/shoulder injury. The injury happened when Taylor was hit after catching a pass during morning practice. The extent of the injury is yet known but if Taylor misses any significant time rookie Adrian Peterson could start seeing more time with the 1st string offense

Raiders Bring In DuanteThe Oakland Raiders have brought in Duante Culpepper for a workout session on Tuesday in part to see if Culpepper has returned to health to bolster their QB situation and more importantly to put a little pressure on overall #1 JaMarcus Russell to sign and get into camp.

Frank Gore UpdateWhile it is true that Frank Gore did break a bone in his hand the good news to fantasy owners is that it happened this early in camp so his availability for the season opener should not be affected.Gore will miss about a week of camp and the hand should be healed in 4 weeks time. Gore has had fumbling problems in the past so his lack of "live" hitting may be a concern for the team in that regard. Gore has climbed into the Top 5 in many Mock drafts and this injury should not affect his standing.

July 30, 2007WR3 For Packers?Packers WR James Jones has the early edge to be the WR3 for the Packers over WRs Ruvell Martin and Robert Ferguson.

Stay Away From This QBProspective Drafters should stay away from QB Chris Simms who is having trouble with his throwing mechanics and is likely to be released or placed on the IR. Inany event, keep your distance from Simms.
Posted by joe at 7:01 PM
RB1 For Titans?Titans RB LenDale White is currently the RB1 for the team, and if this news stays accurate, he would be a great value for teams who drafted him as a RB3.

Cowboys WR NewsThe Cowboys are expected to throw the ball to WR Terrell Owens a bit more this season. This news, coupled with the news of WR Terry Glenn's injury, should result in a boost in Owens' draft position.
Posted by joe at 6:56 PM
Glenn UpdateX-Rays on WR Terry Glenn's knee came back negative, but the aging WR should be downgraded a bit in drafts. Cowboys WR Sam Hurd could be a possibility as a WR5 for some fantasy teams.

Lions QB NewsWith QB Drew Stanton sill sidelined by injury, QB JT O'Sullivan could wind up as the team's QB2. QB Dan Orlovsky looks to be the odd man out thusfar in camp.
Posted by joe at 6:51 PM
Packers NewsRB Brandon Jackson has been unimpressive thusfar in camp. RB PJ Pope could possibly be the team's short yardage back in Green Bay this season. TE Troy Humphrey broke his leg and ankle and will almost likely be placed on the IR.

Coaching Great Walsh Dead at 75Sad news out of the NFL today with the passing of HOF coach Bill Walsh at the age of 75after a long battle with leukemia. Walsh resurrected the 49ers in the 80's and was the architect of the West Coach offense which is now used in some way by just about every NFL team.
Posted by jon at 4:13 PM
Keep An Eye on....DJ HackettWith the trade OF WR Darrell Jackson to the 49ers it is well known that Deion Branch has assumed the #1 WR position for the Seahawks. Around the league though it is #2 man DJ Hackett that has some suggesting that he is a better talent than Branch and will be a bigger scorer to fantasy owners than Branch.Hackett is far from a household name yet so his position in the draft will be in the mid-late rounds.

Patriots WR NewsThe Patriots have placed WR Donte Stallworth on the PUP List. He has a history of nagging injuries so this situation bears watching. WR Wes Welker should be a WR3 for the Patriots, as well as a kick and punt returner, which should boost his fantasy value. WR Jabar Gaffney has the early edge over WR Reche Caldwell for a roster spot on the team.

Johnson A No ShowTo follow up on a report, Chief RB Larry Johnson was a no show for day 1 of the Chiefs camp in protest of a new contract. Johnson is indeed seeking Dwight Freeney money mostly in the way of guaranteed money(Johnson is seeking a 27 million dollar signing bonus). The Chiefs are hesitant to commit the money to a 28 year old back who has carried the ball as much as Johnson has the last 3 years. This has all the makings of a long holdout so Fantasy owners should be aware in their pursuit of him.

Posted by jon at 3:58 PM
Priest Back In?Chief RB Priest Holmes has informed the Chiefs that he plans on reporting to camp.Holmes has missed almost 2 years recovering from neck problems and this all makes the Larry Johnson possible holdout something to watch. If Holmes has anything left in the tank and his neck has no re-curring problems the Chiefs may feel a little more comfortable in possibly trading Johnson to Green Bay who has been inquiring about him since early this off season.

Vick To Be A No Show At CampNFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has "ordered" Michael Vick not to attend the opening of the Falcons camp later this week. The league is still gathering information surrounding the dog fighting which could lead the league imposing a larger punishment. It is looking more and more likely that Vick will miss this year as a leave of absence to deal with the problem and that Joey Harrington will be the teams starting QB when camp breaks.

July 22, 2007Who's Gone In Tampa Bay?If the Bucs sign QB Daunte Culpepper, and that's a big if, the QB that will probably be released will be Chris Simms, not Bruce Gradkowski , as most believe. Gradkowski is one of HC Jon Gruden's favorites and he would be loathe to let him go.

Johnson/Chiefs Heading for a Holdout?Keep an eye on Kansas City where RB Larry Johnson and the team are miles apart on a new contract. The recent contract signed by Colt DE Dwight Freeney is now the benchmark that other high profile players will look at and the 30 million in guaranteed money Freeney received is what Johnson also wants from the Chiefs. As camps are set to open don't be surprised if Johnson is a no show and could be a no show heading into the regular season as well.

July 20, 2007Former #1 Making A Comeback?Former overall #1 pick and Brown QB Tim Couch has contacted every team in the NFL about a possible comeback. Couch has been working out with a personal trainer and has had no pain in his throwing shoulder for some time. With the lack of quality NFL starters, the whole situation in Atlanta with Michael Vick and the fact that so few starting QB's make it through an entire season without injury and the prospects of Couchs' return at some point this season is a strong possibility. As teams enter camps next week don't be surprised if Couchs' name is mentioned by more than one NFL team as a posiible back up heading into the season

July 19, 2007RBBC In Buffalo? The Bills are reportedly toying with the idea of using a RBBC. That could hurt the number that RB Marshawn Lynch could put up. That news could put RB Anthony Thomas further up on the cheet sheets. We here at EFF though expect to see Lynch win the job outright.

A Deep SleeperLooking for an extreme sleeper in deep leagues or leagues that have numerous superfluous rounds? Try out RB Kenny Irons from the Bengals. There are reports that the Bengals are not happy with RB Rudi Johnson's 3.8 yards per carry that he had in 2006.

July 18, 2007Culpepper will have suitors for his talentsJust released quarterback Daunte Culpepper should find employment soon, and will have at least two or three teams interested in his services. With Michael Vick's legal troubles, Atlanta is one possibility, although both Vick and backup Joey Harrington had great minicamps under new coach Bobby Petrino. Another possibility is St. Louis, where head coach Scott Linehan was Culpepper's offensive coordinator while in Minnesota. With Marc Bulger in the final year of his contract, it could be a good fit for Daunte. The most likely scenerio would be for Culpepper to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Byron Leftwich is also in the last year of his contract, and his injury past and lack of mobility make him a lame duck starter. Plus, Culpepper's head coach from Minnesota, Mike Tice, is an assistant with the Jaguars.

DE Michael Strahan has called out Manning to assume more of a leadership role with the team and to play with more poise down the stretch of games. -In what looks like a bargaining tool for a new contract Ram QB Marc Bulger is not ruling out skipping camp until a new contract is offered by the Rams.
