September 25, 2007Week 4 Walking WoundedThe injury bug is going around the NFL, and it is hitting fantasy rosters extremely hard. Here is an update on some of the injured and their immediate status: In St. Louis, quarterback Marc Bulger is suffering from 2 broken ribs along with a bruised knee. He played on Sunday, and will again be under center at the Dallas Cowboys this weekend. Running back Steven Jackson won't be. He has a partial tear in his groin that will keep him out this weekend and possibly up to 3-4 weeks. Pittsburgh wide receiver Hines Ward injured his right knee and is doubtful for Sunday's game at the Cardinals. Cincinnati Bengals running back Rudi Johnson has a hamstring injury that will most likely keep him out of Monday night's home game against New England. Houston wideout Jacoby Jones will miss 2-3 weeks with a separated shoulder, while running back Ahman Green is doubtful for this weekend's game at Atlanta with a sprained knee. Tight end Vernon Davis sprained his right knee and is doubtful for the 49ers home game against Seattle. Buffalo quarterback J.P. Losman sprained his left knee and will be out 2-3 weeks. And the big one, New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister tore his ACL and damaged his MCL and is out for the season. There are others that bear watching, like: Jake Delhomme (elbow), Calvin Johnson (back), Josh McCown (foot), Santana Moss (groin), Anquan Boldin (hip) and Shaun Alexander (hand). EFF will keep you updated on all of these injuries.

Grossman out; Griese inIt was bound to happen. Everyone, it seemed, except for coach Lovie Smith knew it. Rex Grossman can not play quarterback in this league. But for the Bears to have a shot at getting back to the playoffs and for the coach not to lose control of his team, Smith finally has made the switch. Brian Griese will get the start Sunday at Detroit as the Bears try to get back into the divisional race. At 1-2, they trail the 3-0 Green Bay Packers and the 2-1 Lions in the division. Griese isn't the next Tom Brady, but he will play smarter than Grossman, not turn the ball over as much, and give his team a chance.

Although not yet official, Kelly Holcomb will amke his first start for the Vikings Bears rookie tight end Greg Olson (knee) will see significant playing time on Sunday Vikings running back Chester Taylor will probably suit up, but see limited action, making his fantasy value next to nothing Vernand Morency of Green Bay is in the same boat. The Packers running back will see very limited action, making him a non factor against the Chargers. Expect DeShawn Wynn and Brandon Jackson to split the carries again Bengals wide receiver Tab Perry (hamstring) is out against Seattle Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.J. September 22, 2007Player UpdatesPittsburgh Steelers rookie tight end Matt Spaeth will not play against San Francisco because of a quadriceps injury that kept him out of practice all week Green Bay Packers wide receivers Greg Jennings and James Jones (hamstrings) should both play this weekend. This will be Jennings first action of the year after missing both of the Packers first two game sbecause of the injured hamstring. New York Jets quarterback Chad Pennington (ankle) and wr Jericho Cotchery (shoulder) are both listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. The EFF guess is that they will both play. Indianapolis Colts tight end Dallas Clark (neck) should play Sunday after working out on Friday. Philadeplhia Eagles tight end L.J. Frye Dealt To SeattleIndeed Charlie Frye of the Browns has been traded to the Seattle Seahawks for an undisclosed draft pick putting an end to all the speculations of his future the last couple of days. Frye will serve as a backup to Matt Hasselback and allow the team to utilize Seneca Wallace as an offensive weapon.
Posted by jon at 3:09 PM
Frye Remains In Cleveland....BarelyCharlie Frye is still a Brown...for now. The Browns Flagship station,WTAM, has corrected it's earlier release that Frye has been traded to the team is actively pursuing a trade of Frye. If Frye and the Browns cannot find a trade Frye will be released from the team to make room for Ken Dorsey.Frye is on the books for $435,00 this season and is signed through '08 but because he is not a vested veteran the Browns can release him outright and not be on the hook for the remainder of his '07 salary.
Posted by jon at 1:01 PM
Browns QB UpdateIn a whirlwind of activity in the Cleveland area after their embarrassing loss to the Steelers, the Brown's flagship station,WTAM, is reporting that Charlie Frye has been traded to an unidentified team. This trade frees up a roster spot for recently released and just re-signed QB Ken Dorsey who had been working as a mentor with QB Brady Quinn throughout training camp. The Brown coaching staff is still tight lipped about who will start for them in week 3 but the Quinn era will obviously be starting sooner rather than later.

September 10, 2007NFL News And NotesWith K Josh Scobee out 6-8 weeks with a hamstring injury the Jaguars will be bringing in a slew of K's for a tryout . Included in the bunch are Nick Novak,Mike Vanderjadt,John Carney,Billy Cundiff and John Huston Chief WR Eddie Kennison will miss Week @ v. the Bears. Rookie Dwayne Bowe will start in his place. Seahawk WR DJ Hackett will be out a minimum of 4 weeks with a high ankle sprain. Raven QB Steve McNair left their Monday Night game with a groin injury and was replaced by Kyle Boller. His status for week 2 is unknown. Still unsigned overall #1 pick JaMarcus Russell has agreed to a deal with the Raiders and is expected at practice on Wednesday. Cadillac Williams status for week 2 is questionable after he suffered bruised ribs v. Seattle. X-Ray results on Chad Pennington's injured ankle are still not known but it was clear that Pennington was in obvious pain. If Pennington is unable to go Kelly Clemons will start in his place. Josh McNown played well enough for the Raiders on Sunday(30-40-313-2TD's) that he will again be the raiders starter in week 2. With Cleveland's poor performance on Sunday their are already calls for a switch to Brady Quinn. In an interesting move the Browns re-signed Ken Dorsey who was serving as Quinns' unofficial QB coach and who Quinn had a good rapport with. This may signal an end to either Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson sooner rather than later as well as the Quinn era to start possibly this week.

Eli out up to 4 weeksAccording to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, N.Y. Giants quarterback Eli Manning suffered a separated shoulder in last night's game with the Dallas Cowboys, and will miss at least the next 4 weeks. The team has already released a statement that Glenn will miss at least the first two games of the season so our best guess is Glenn being ready to play in Week4 or 5. This is a familiar story for Jackson who seemed to always have a hamstring problem during last season with the Seahawks.
