Palmer UpdateCarson Palmer will be the teams #3 QB today and the team will start Ryan Fitzpatrick v. the Browns. As the #3 QB Palmer is only eligible to enter the game in the 4th quarter but if he does get hurt and cannot continue to play the teams 1st and 2nd QB's are not allowed to re-enter the game.
Posted by jon at 12:49 PM
EFF News And Notes-Use extreme caution if Derek Anderson of the Browns is your QB this week. Word out of Cleveland is that if the Browns offense continues to struggle as it has it will be an early exit for Anderson and Brady Quinn will enter the game. Quinn this week has put in extra time with the coaching staff as well as watching game film in anticipation of the move. - The Rams woes continue. Now Tory Holt has come out against the benching of QB Marc Bulger and word is that Bulger has said he will not play for HC Scott Linnehan again. If the Rams lose again on Sunday this could be the final staw for Linnehan as he will be fired. -Eagle RB Brian Westbrook still has not seen the practice field this week and will spend much of today getting treatment for his sore ankle. The Eagles will wait until pre-game warmups to make a decision on whether Westbrook will play or not. -Raider RB Darren McFadden will also be a game time decision with a toe injury. -Bengal QB Carson Palmer is also a game time decision after feeling numbness in his throwing shoulder. - Today's Bengal-Brown game will match up two of the biggest disappointments in fantasy. Chad Johnson(8-88-0) and Braylon Edwards(8-73-0) will each try to break out this game.

Value At The Backup?Already only 2 weeks into the season there are 5 backups that have been thrown into the forefront, the most notable is Matt Cassell. Are any of these guys worth much to fantasy owners? We rank the backups in order of their Fantasy impacts. 1) Matt Cassell (NEP) Obviously the Patriot offense took a big hit with Tom Brady going down but Cassell will be a surprise to fantasy owners. It will take a couple of weeks but as time marches on the playbook will begin to expand. The Patriots have turned into a pass first to set up the run team to put pressure on opposing defenses to stop them. With a team with the receiving corps as the Patriots this team will continue to press the ball down field. More importantly knowing that Brady is indeed gone for the season should help Cassell settle in and not have to worry about making a mistake that could put him on the bench. 2) Gus Frerrotte (MINN) The time is now for the Vikings with an impressive defense and an offensive line and rushing attack second to none. It didn't take too long for the coaching staff to recognize the glaring weakness at QB to make the move to a more than capable Frerrotte.Frerrotte main objective is to get the ball down field to Bernard Berrian who up until this point has been a non factor with only 3 receptions for 38 yards. The Vikings need to gain more balance on offense to at least present a level of competence in their passing game. If the Vikings do find the balance Frerrotte will continue to be the starter for the team with Jackson stuck in the backup position. 3) Kerry Collins (TENN) The Titans are very similar to the Vikings in the regard that they are also a team in search of balance on offense. At this point no one is clear on the stability of Vince Young and we have seen his play drop considerably since his rookie season. The Titans need a presence at the QB position and Young just seemed incapable of that role. Collins has been a starter in the past with mixed results but at least has the ability to read defenses better than Young. Vince has been benched for the foreseeable future so this is not a few game experiment. The question for Collins is who on the WR position will step up and be his go to guy. The Titans have yet shown a wealth of talent on the outside but this team needs to find one quickly to offset their running game. 4) Brian Griese (TB) While Griese is just in for maybe another game or two while while Jeff Garcia heals he has lost the Bucs lone outside weapon Joey Galloway with a leg injury for this weeks game. Griese has never been comfortable passing the ball down the field so he should not be looked upon with any real value. 5) Tyler Thigpen (KC) Of all the teams affected by QB injuries, KC may have been hurt the most. The Chiefs are in a re-building mode so a healthy Brodie Croyle was necessary to be able to judge his talents for the future at QB. While the Chiefs still have Tony Gonzalez and Dwayne Bowe, Thigpen is just not ready for the NFL and the Chief offense will struggle mightily to score any points. The Chiefs will rely more and more on Larry Johnson to at least control the clock and keep the games closer than they should be.

September 6, 2008A Seahawk Omen? The Seahawks brought Julius Jones in during the off season to compete with Maurice Morriss for the starting RB position. As his career has proven the inconsistent play of Jones has landed him on the bench and Morriss being named the teams starter heading into Week 1. As an interesting side note to Morriss: The Seahawks are 5-0 when Morriss has 18+ carries in a game. With the Seahawks WR thin due to injuries Morriss is sure to be the focus of the Seahawk offense with 18 carries almost a certain to happen.

September 1, 2008EFF NEWS AND NOTESIt appears as if the Raiders are the front runners for signing ex patriot WR Chad Jackson The Lions have signed RB Rudi Johnson whose career has gone from Pro-Bowler to rookie protector in just a few short years. To make room for Rudi the Lions have released RB Tatum Bell Ex- Falcon backup QB Joey Harrington was in for a visit to the Ravens on Sunday and will re-visit as early as Tuesday. The Ravens are also in negotiations with ex-Buc QB Chris Simms. With Kyle Boller out with a shoulder injury and backup Troy Smith out indefinitely with tonsilitis the Ravens are in desperate need of a backup QB. Expect one of the 2 to sign as early as Tuesday with Harrington being the leading candidate. The Cowboys have already been in contact with Brooks Bollinger but a contract may not be offered until after Week 1 of the season The Raiders are also speaking with ex-49er WR Ashlie Lelie which if he signs would make 2 new WR at the Raiders beckoning. This is surely a sign that the Raiders are far from comfortable heading into the season with what they already had on their roster. Speaking of the Ravens rookie QB Joe Flacco will be the starter for the Ravens in Week 1.It seems as if the Ravens have conceded the season to see if their QB of the future is Flacco.
